Celebrating Sherri Richter |
DASH Agent of the Month

At DASH Carolina, our team is built on a shared belief: real estate is about much more than just a transaction. It is about helping people find their true sense of belonging. This month, we are incredibly proud to celebrate Sherri Richter, a dedicated agent who brings unparalleled heart, devotion, and structural care to our Raleigh area team.

Serving as a trusted real estate guide throughout Wake and Johnston County, Sherri has spent the last two years at DASH proving that the best agents do not just show properties. They help families seamlessly plant deep roots in new soil.

From the Bay Area to Clayton: A Journey Heartfully Rooted in Family

Sherri’s path to North Carolina is a testament to what matters most to her: family. Originally navigating life across California and Indiana, her life took an unexpected turn when her father-in-law passed away suddenly. Understanding where she was needed most, Sherri and her family relocated to North Carolina three years ago to ensure her mother-in-law was fully cared for, who now happily shares a home with them. The move also brought Sherri much closer to her extended family members split between Indiana and Florida.

Settling in Johnston County, Sherri experienced firsthand the massive transition of relocating across the country, an experience that now directly fuels her real estate business.

"Moving from the Bay Area in California to North Carolina was a huge change for me," Sherri shares. "I’ll always love the beauty, culture, and energy of the Bay Area, but North Carolina has truly captured my heart in a different way. What I love most about NC is the slower pace, the genuine kindness of people, the beautiful seasons, and the sense of community. Life feels a little more grounded here. There’s space to breathe, grow, and really enjoy the little things."

That exact feeling of connection and belonging is what she discovered right outside her front door. Clayton has officially become home, offering a perfect blend of small-town charm mixed with all the rapid growth and opportunity happening in the Triangle. It is the kind of place where people still wave at each other, support local businesses, and make you feel welcome the second you arrive.

Living Like a Local: Sherri’s Johnston County Insider Guide

For Sherri, supporting local businesses is not a catchy marketing phrase; it is an active family lifestyle. When you are looking to tap into the local community heartbeat, her playbook takes you straight to the spots where everyone knows your name. If you want to feel like an immediate regular, she points directly to McKinley's Irish Pub, a beloved Johnston County community staple that recently entered an exciting new chapter under the ownership of her sister-in-law.

"From the moment you walk through the door, they make you feel like a regular… kind of like Cheers," Sherri says. "While they’re excited for this new chapter, this pub has already been a Clayton staple for years. It’s more than just a bar, it’s its own little family. People show up for each other here, celebrate together, support one another when times are tough, and create the kind of atmosphere that’s hard to find these days. Football Sundays are the best, watching Canes hockey there is always a blast, and of course they’re known for their wings for a reason!"

When she isn't mapping out the local market or closing deals for clients, Sherri’s absolute favorite "third space" outside of the home and office is the local golf course. It provides the perfect layout to unplug, focus, and enjoy the beautiful North Carolina climate.

"There’s just something about being outside, competing with friends, and trying to chase that one perfect shot that keeps pulling you back," she says. "Whether it’s a quick nine after work or a full round when I can fit it in, the golf course is one of my favorite places to unplug and recharge."

Real Estate Advice for Triangle Newcomers (And the Truth Not in the Brochures)

Having successfully mastered the relocation journey herself, Sherri’s top piece of advice for anyone targeting a move to the Raleigh area is clear, strategic, and highly focused on long-term happiness.

"Thinking about moving to the Raleigh area from out of state? Here’s my biggest piece of advice: Don’t just shop for a house, shop for the lifestyle and community that fits you best. The Triangle has so many different vibes depending on where you land. Raleigh, Clayton, Cary, Wake Forest, Fuquay, Garner, Apex… they all offer something a little different. Some areas feel fast-paced and modern, while others have more small-town charm and tight-knit communities.

Also, be prepared for people to actually talk to you here! Neighbors wave, strangers hold doors open, and local spots quickly start to feel like home.

And one more thing, give yourself time to adjust to the slower pace. What feels 'quiet' at first often becomes the exact thing you end up loving most about North Carolina."

Beyond matching the right community to your lifestyle, Sherri also prides herself on keeping it completely real with her clients about daily life in the region. Every relocation booklet talks about the mild winters and blooming job market, but her number-one piece of practical advice involves prepping for a certain seasonal color palette.

"For sure I would suggest to invest in a good car wash membership and a power washing company during pollen season," Sherri laughs. "Nobody prepares you for the fact that your black car will turn bright yellow overnight. Your porch, patio furniture, driveway, including the siding on your home, everything gets dusted in pollen. It’s basically a seasonal event here."

The Great Escape: Finding Peace at the Coast

One of the best perks of living in the Triangle is having both the coast and the mountains within driving distance. When it comes to the great North Carolina debate, Sherri has a very clear favorite for a quick 48-hour weekend escape.

"For me, it’s the Coast every single time!" Sherri says. "Give me the sound of the waves, salty air, seafood, waterfront sunsets, and my toes in the sand. There’s just something about being near the water that instantly resets me. Don’t get me wrong, the mountains are beautiful but the coast feels like peace."
